I am sure we all have been told that crash dieting is really unhealthy and that it doesn’t lead to long-term weight loss success.  If they are considered successful at all, it is only until you start eating normally again, and then the weight begins to slowly creep back on. But for some strange reason the powerful allure of quick and easy weight loss takes over people’s rational thought and they try crash dieting as a solution.

Around this time every year, I start to freak out a little. Halloween is in a month, and I still have no idea what to be! Usually, I try to avoid store-bought costumes because there’s always a chance that someone will be wearing it too. That’s just not fun at all. Last year, I had two different costumes. One for Friday night (Farm Girl) and one for Saturday (Rogue from X-Men). I made them both using things I had and other little things that I bought. Personally, I think that’s the way to go. But then I need to have an amazing idea soon! In the meantime, I wanted to see what the “big” costumes are going to be this year.

The second episode of The Biggest Loser was just what I was waiting for — the contestants arrived at the Ranch! And in a typical game play twist, Bob and Jillian were able to each choose one person who didn’t make the cut from the season premiere and bring them to the Ranch.  Bob brought back Aaron, and Jillian brought back Elizabeth, who surprised the rest of the contestants as they waltzed onto the show sporting yellow t-shirts. Keep reading to discover this season’s big shockers!

I have never used Orabrush before, so this is definitely not a product review or endorsement, but rather the comical story of how I stumbled across this product.  I was browsing the New York Times’  most popular stories section and came across the title –To Fix Bad Breath, a Gadget Seen on YouTube.  I was instantly intrigued by the idea of a gadget that would get rid of bad breath.  I mean, isn’t brushing your teeth, flossing and rinsing your mouth with mouthwash enough anymore?

breast cancer awareness

This week a new study was released in the New England Journal of Medicine that looked at breast cancer patients in Norway pre- and post 1996.  The study was designed to study the effectiveness of mammograms in this modern day when medical treatments have reached an advanced stage.  The results were anything but predictable, however.  The results have created quite the division among doctors.

According to a recent report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we still aren’t eating enough fruits and vegetables — in fact, fruit consumption has actually dropped! I am actually kind of surprised by this finding. It seems that over the last few years, there has been a huge push towards eating healthful and nutrition foods. With so much talk aimed at getting Americans to eat healthier, it’s kind of shocking that the results aren’t showing these efforts.

Last night, The Biggest Loser 10th season premiered!  I was excited all day yesterday for the 2-hour premiere.  I love being able to follow people’s journeys over the course of the show.  Seeing the physical and emotional changes that take place in the contestants is inspiring! The intense competitions, mean trainers and contestant drama help, too!

fox valley marathon

This past Sunday was the big day — the day of my second marathon! Despite more than a few obstacles, I finished — all 26.2 miles!  Sunday’s marathon was near my hometown, which was nice considering my first marathon involved getting on a plane the very next day. The course traveled along a scenic river front, running through four towns.  There were about 1,100 runners that showed up for this inaugural event, including a man from Japan!  We even had Olympic hopeful, Tera Moody, running the 20-mile race as a warm-up for the Chicago Marathon in October.
