I know it seems like we just had a Getting To Know You post – and that’s because we did! The holidays threw off my schedule and instead of pushing everything back a week, I figured we might as well feature two awesome bloggers this week!
Today, I am excited to present Matt Tabor and his blog, The Kitchen of Runner. Matt, a self-proclaimed running foodie, is a senior at the University of Alabama and works to live the most enjoyable life he can, which he accomplishes through dedication to fitness and cooking healthy food.
Check out today’s post about what’s in his freezer. This is a man that loves his bread! See for yourself!
1. Tell us a bit about your blog?
My blog is The Kitchen of a Runner, which I started a little over a year ago. Believe it or not, I actually started blogging with my spare time, but it eventually led to something that I really enjoy, and I now spend a lot of time on it.
I blog about my day to day life, but I focus on my active lifestyle and culinary creations. While my blog is technically titled “The Kitchen of a Runner”, it is about more than just running. Lately, running has sort of been putting on the backburner (I want to train for a half ironman), but I think I will always be a runner at heart.
2. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
My favorite book of all time is called “Where the Red Fern Grows” by Wilson Rawls. I cried like a little baby at the end, but its one book that I just couldn’t put down. I don’t read often, but when a book sucks me in, it’s a really good book!
3. What is your greatest pet peeve?
I actually have two. The first is when people are mean or rude for absolutely no reason at all. Just because you are having a bad day, don’t make someone else’s day bad as well. The second is when people are lazy. I don’t think that needs an explanation.
4. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
I wish that I could stop time. Lately, time has just been flying by and I feel like I am missing out on so much.
5. How did you transition to healthy living?
I started to eat healthier and running at around the same time, which was my senior year of high school. All throughout high school, I played tennis for around 3-4 hours a day, but probably double that on the weekends because of tournaments. I was pretty active, so I never really watched what I ate.
When I quit playing tennis, I basically sat around and ate all day (no joke). Eventually, I started to pack on quite a few pounds.
My best friend and I started running together after school a few days a week to stay in shape and lose some weight. We found these Nike workouts in iTunes and eventually I got hooked. I kept trying to go farther and farther each workout and it was like an addiction. Over time, I just kept running and eventually completed a marathon!
In addition to becoming a running addict, I also started living a healthier lifestyle and I found a new passion for cooking. This led me to start a blog, which led me to these questions and the rest is history.
Now, I basically run and cook all day.
Anything wrong with that?
6. If our reader’s could only read one of your blog posts, which one should they read and why?
This post pretty much sums up everything I blog for. Just go read it to find out why

Ah Matt! I’ve been reading your blog but I never realized how much we had in common.
1.) I played tennis hardcore in high school.
2.) I started my “healthy lifestyle” senior year.
3.) I LOVE “Where the Red Fern Grows” but it makes me so unbelievably depressed that I hate to read it.
4.) Lazy people suck
