This week, we had the opportunity to talk to some of our favorite bloggers, the Fit Bottomed Girls! These girls know all about staying fit, and know that fit comes in all different shapes and sizes. Keep reading to learn more about Jennipher Walters, co-founder of www.FitBottomedGirls.com, and how you can get motivated to be fit!
Tell us a bit about your blog? How long have you been blogging? How did you come up with the title of your blog? What are you favorite topics to blog about? Why is this topic important to you?
We created Fit Bottomed Girls almost three and a half years ago, when we set out to help women realize that working out could actually be fun — and make your life totally awesome.
After lots of brainstorming with Erin, one night at a baseball game, Fit Bottomed Girls just popped in my head. Erin and I are both big Queen fans, so as soon as I texted her the name (which I did immediately!), it was — pardon the pun — fit!
We love to blog about fitness, obviously, but also a lot about body image, nutrition and really anything that we think will improve our readers’ lives. From creating workout music playlists to reviewing workout DVDs and fitness products to sharing healthy recipes, we kind of do it all when it comes to healthy living!
This topic is SO important to me. When I was younger I had plenty of struggles with self-worth, over-exercising and emotional eating. FBG, in many ways, teaches others what I wish someone had taught me years ago — that a number on the scale should never determine your self-worth. Also, I really do believe being fit and eating healthy foods is a sure-fire way to live a happier and more full and fun life. FBG is definitely about all that!
If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Gone With the Wind. Scarlett and Rhett are two of the best and most fascinating characters ever written.
What is your greatest pet peeve?
People who think Fit Bottomed Girls is just for girls with fit butts! In our minds, fit bottoms come in all shapes and sizes! It’s an attitude and a lifestyle — not a pant size.
If you were stranded on a dessert island and could only have 5 foods, what would they be?
Tough, but: almond butter, coffee, kale, roasted Brussels sprouts and salmon. Yum.
What are you favorite workout moves?
I have so many! I love yoga, running, hiking and playing tennis. But my fave moves are probably box jumps, kettlebell swings, push-ups and squats.
What tips do you have for people who are intimated to start getting healthy?
Don’t change everything at once. Do one thing for the healthier this week, and then next week add another one. Over time, small changes add up, and you’re most apt to make a lifestyle change when it isn’t totally overwhelming.
Besides healthy living, what’s another important part of your life?
Family! I have a fabulous husband and a super-sweet pup we rescued about four years ago. Love ‘em!
What website do you love, but kind of also hate?
Go Fug Yourself. Gosh, it’s smart, hilarious and fun. But it takes up so much of my darn time because I always get sucked in!
If our readers could only read one of your blog posts, which one should they read and why?
Oh, that’s a hard one. This one is pretty good. Sums up who we are, and why we do what we do! http://fitbottomedgirls.com/2011/05/what-it-means-to-be-a-fit-bottomed-girl/
Thanks again to the Fit Bottomed Girls for partnering with Running with Mascara to bring new fitness tips to our readers! And tell us: What do you like best about the Fit Bottomed Girls?
