miley cyrus

As of now, the #1 hottest search trend is “Miley Cyrus Twerking.” In case you haven’t had your pop culture fill for today — or don’t know what twerking means — take a look at Miley’s latest music video, “We Can’t Stop.” Her booty shaking and hip moving is nothing like her Hannah Montana “Hoedown Throwdown.” And though I admit I once mastered the hoedown, I’m not too sure if I’ll do the same with the twerking. Sorry, Miley.

Born into the Youtube world just yesterday, “We Can’t Stop” already has over 6 million views with about 130,000 who can’t stop listening and 74,000 who can. With a fair amount of dislikes, it’s not surprising that Miley has been receiving negative buzz regarding her metamorphosis — as well as fans who applaud her change.

A few highlights of the video include Miley twerking in barely-there shorts, wearing gold grills and mid finger rings, baring her many tattoos in a “dope” leotard, and a friend who’s enjoying Wonder Bread a little too much. But aside from the odd imagery and provocative behavior featured in the music video, many have been speculating that Miley is singing about drugs.

In the past, Miley has had her fair share of drug buzz. A few years ago, Hannah Montana fans were shocked when pictures surfaced on the Internet of Miley smoking salvia. Since then, she’s made the claim that marijuana is safer than alcohol. And her name has even become a reference to cocaine in hip hop songs.

However, Miley has denied rumors that her song is about taking “Molly,” the drug ecstasy, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone:

“I have an accent! So when I say ‘Miley,’ it must sound like ‘molly,’” she says. “You’re not allowed to say ‘molly’ on the radio, so it obviously says ‘Miley.’ I knew people were gonna wonder what I’m saying in that song.”

Well… that’s not only thing I’m left wondering about. With lines like, “And everyone in line in the bathroom/Trying to get a line in the bathroom,” did Miley say “we like to party” or “we like to potty”?

Whether she’s singing about grown up ways of partying with her friends or pottying with ecstasy, I still think Miley has talent and beauty. And I’d be lying if I said the song is absolutely terrible. After listening to it several times, I can’t keep my head from bobbing to its laid-back beat and catchy melody.

After all, as Miley says in her song, “Remember only God can judge us.”
