Evening in Chicago, Gold Coast

It’s snowing today in Chicago, and it’s instead of “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,” it’s beginning to look (and feel) a lot like Hoth. Yesterday, our windchill drove temperatures into negative numbers, and it put me in the mood to watch a movie. I thought I’d share some of my favorite movies with you, and have some special guests do the same.

In the summer I barley sit still. I’m always outside running, walking or riding my bike, but once winter arrives I’m the complete opposite.

I’ll freely admit it: I usually gain weight during the winter. Maybe it’s a combination of the holidays, the rich foods we gravitate towards, and the time off from work that causes it. For me, I think it’s because of the darkness and cold in addition to the other three things. This year, I’m absolutely determined not to gain my usual 15 winter pounds, and I’ve found the perfect way for us all to embark on this crusade.

The winter months are long and cold, and therefore we turn into lazy couch potatoes. We could all use a good lazy day once in a while so here’s how I plan on spending today.

Since I haven’t really had the opportunity to introduce myself, I thought I’d take this chance to do so. I’m Dan. This post will let you know a little bit about me in some of my most embarrassing incidents. Hopefully, you can learn from my mistakes. Hell, hopefully can learn from my mistakes.  As the only male editor here, you won’t find me writing about nail polish, shoe trends, or fashion faux pas (I’m sure I’ve committed enough to be imprisoned by now). I have to adapt. So, let’s get to my stupidity.

We’re still anxiously awaiting the first snow here in Chicago (it may happen this week!) and we’ve dug out all of our cold winter gear. Parkas, gloves, scarves, boots and hats have all resurfaced in our closets, but that doesn’t mean we can’t eye new accessories right?

With November starting tomorrow, winter is on the horizon. Now that you’ve seen all of the holiday nail polish collections, we spoke with Amber Edwards, the nail director for Mario Tricoci salons in Chicago, to get an expert opinion on this winter’s must-have polish colors.

Essie has long been one of our favorite nail polish lines, always on the cutting edge and releasing gorgeous new hues with each season. My fellow editor Jen goes gaga for every new line and we have some personal favorites of our own! Get amped for Spring with the pastel hues of these pretty polishes!

No matter where you live, January and February are nothing like April or May. Flowers aren’t blooming and the sky is gray far more often than it is clear and bright. Keep away the Winter blues with these fun ideas for cute hair and nails courtesy of current trends and celebs like reality star and lifestyle blogger Lauren Conrad!
