We all know that our skin changes a bit in the Winter months. At RWM, we love the past collections of high fashion designers that we’ve seen at our favorite budget-friendly stores. With Target and H&M hosting designers such as Jason Wu and Versace, respectively, we are always eager to hear whose visions will be appearing in our midst. On March 8, Marni will launch its collection at H&M. Marni is a label that boasts bold prints and colors, and fun shapes that speak more to creative modesty than overt sex appeal. For a woman dressing for women, these clothes are both comfortable and beautiful, practical and sophisticated.

First off, I am absolutely in love with this dual print, boho dress. I can picture it worn to both a relaxing lunch on the patio with a pair of sandals and a slouchy bag, and I can also picture it with dressed up wedges or sandals and a sleek clutch for a night out during the summer. This dress yearns to be worn for any sort of outdoor summer event, and it’s getting us to look forward to the turn of the season.

This summer, we know we’ll see lots of fun shorts that make statements. Marni delivers on the trend with this pair of patterned silk shorts. We’re so excited to pair these with a tank and sandals for a basic day time look, or dress them up with a silk shirt and wedges for evening or occasion.

Whether you watched the Grammys for the music or for the star power, we’re sure you noticed all of the amazing fashion picks, from the very best to the simply atrocious. Keep reading to see our favorite gowns and designers that were featured on Sunday!

First, let’s talk about some of the biggest winners, both musically and fashion-wise. In terms of bringing home the trophies, Adele and the Foo Fighters definitely had a good year, with Adele raking in 6 awards and the Foo Fighters accepting 5. Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, and many other icons received awards, while Rihanna and Lady Gaga were noticeably snubbed.

There were a remarkable number of standouts in the fashion category. Adele herself looked healthy after undergoing surgery, and wore a beautiful shimmer black 3/4 sleeve floor length gown. Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Kelly Osbourne also looked demure in metallic gowns, and Katy’s pale blue Elie Saab was easily our favorite of the three.

More fashion forward stars included Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna, who both wore slim fitting black and gold cutout gowns. Corinne Bailey Rae wore a dress from Project Runway star Christian Siriano’s Fall 2011 collection, and in our opinion, definitely won the fashion category of the night. We think it’s awesome that she would showcase a new designer!

Jennifer Hudson signed on to do a performance at the last minute, but her rendition of the late Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” brought stars to their feet. Etta James and Amy Winehouse were also celebrated, with Amy even winning a posthumous Grammy nod for her duet with Tony Bennett.

This week is the beginning of the annual New York Fashion Week, and there are new health guidelines in place for participating models. Keep reading to learn all about the new rules in place regarding backstage behavior…and the model with a 20-inch waist!

New York Fashion Week starts today, and the runway shows will be the first of many shows that will now include health initiatives for the models to follow as dictated by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. There has been a lot of concern regarding the unhealthy standards models hold themselves to and the public scrutiny that comes along with that. The rules also draw attention to issues like anorexic and bulimia.

Models will now have to be at least 16 years old in order to participate in a runway show, and the backstage use of alcohol by minors is being prohibited (and discouraged in terms of of-age models). The health guidelines encourage models with an eating disorder to seek help and leave the business until they are approved to return by their doctor.

Designer Tory Burch was in search of models for her Valentine’s Day show and was disappointed and concerned over who and what she saw. ““There is still an issue, and there is still a lot of work to be done,” Burch said. “There have been positive steps. But I see some girls coming in who are really emaciated. It is still a problem.”

According to the initiative, the goal is to promote “awareness, education, and safety.” The council’s guidelines also require that healthy snacks and water be provided backstage at fashion shows. Although many groups are pleased with the changes, there is still much to be done. The modeling industry will always be scrutinized for their representation of what fashion houses consider ideal beauty and weight. These standards are difficult for the average woman to uphold and are the cause of many eating disorders in American women and women around the world.

A current story that is circulating is one of Romanian model Ioana Spangenberg. Her midsection is tiny, and photos of her miniscule middle are flooding the Internet. British tabloids are calling her  “The Human Hourglass”, though this is no kind of hourglass figure I’ve ever seen on a human body before. Spangenberg said her 20-inch waist is natural and has nothing to do with lifestyle or diet. She has found work modeling corsets; that particular industry is fascinated by tiny waists. She claims her measurements are 32-20-32, not far from those of a certain famous toy doll that has been popular for generations.

“In Romania, it is better to be overweight, because that means you are from a wealthy family,” she said. She insists that she has always been small in her midsection and says she can’t gain weight when she tries; she claims to love pizza.

I can’t help but think of former model Isabelle Caro (who posed in an ad campaign against anorexia), who then died in late 2010 after battling that disease. Despite restrictions put on models, other than age (and even then, fake IDs exist), fashion houses and councils can’t control what a model does on her own time. Even if they hide their problems from others backstage at a shoot or fashion show, that doesn’t mean they aren’t continuing unhealthy practices in the privacy of their own homes.

After the Super Bowl, we’re here to talk about all the biggest highlights and fashion statements of the evening, from the game to its fans, from breaks like halftime to the commercials. Keep reading to see our thoughts on all things Super Bowl, and stay with us as we ask ourselves WHY Madonna wore a detachable skirt and why H&M didn’t make the David Beckham commercial at least a bit more interesting.

So firstly… we should probably discuss the football [fashion]. Each year, even though the stadium doesn’t belong to one of the two teams in the Super Bowl, there is a designated home team. In odd years, the NFC team is the home team and in even years, it’s the AFC. The home team gets to decide whether to wear the colored or white jerseys. The patriots wore blue while the giants wore white. The Patriots also continued to honor Myra Kraft, owner Robert Kraft’s late wife, by wearing an “MHK” patch on the left side of their jerseys.

Now we get to discuss the fun part – halftime. Madonna wowed with a medley of some of her greatest hits: “Music” from 2000, “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer” from the 80s, and her newest song called “Give Me All Your Luvin.” Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci designed all of Madonna’s 3 costumes, from her wow-factor entry with crown and cape, to her black mini and concluding full length ensemble that she donned for “Like a Prayer.” Even if the public is torn between whether or not the musicality was all there, we know that Madonna scored a touchdown when it came to fashion.

Discussion-worthy fashion even ended up in the commercials! David Beckham  personally showed up to model his new line for H&M in a commercial that got mixed reviews. In terms of fitness, we loved the puppy who decided to slim down to race the Volkswagon. There has to be one classic dog commercial in the Super Bowl, and this one hit the spot.
