Today, I wanted to look back at my New Year’s goals that I created back on December 29th. I mean a lot can happen in 4 months. Honestly, I can’t even remember all my goals, which is why I think it’s time to revisit them and see how I’m doing.

Here are the goals I set at the very end of last year:

1. Get in shape for my wedding. Classic, right? At least my wedding is in September, so there’s an end in sight for this one. I already work out consistently, so the key will be to keep things new and fresh so that my workouts don’t become stale. I want to include a larger focus on strength training, which I do, but not as much or as well as I could.

It’s that time of year when if you’re a gym-goer, you notice a sea of shiny, new faces; and if you’ve just made that resolution to get fit, you may be embarking on that first trip to the gym. Either way,  the beginning of the year is the perfect time to keep up with the workout that you stuck to last year, or turn over a new leaf and make this year different from years of failed fitness resolutions.

Either way, it’s a good thing that the new year’s fitness hype starts in January because there’s nothing about January weather on its own that makes it easy to decide to leave your cozy, comfortable home to exercise. But if you use your renewed new year’s vigor to make it out the door, then all the better!

It’s exciting to publish a blog post about new year’s resolutions because, let’s face it, they can be hard to keep up with and once you post them, you have to commit, right? I always struggle with trying to find something that I can actually do. I can think of tons of resolutions that fell by the wayside over the years, but I can’t really think of many that I stuck with all year long.

The funny thing is that I am a very goal-oriented person, so this should be a no-brainer. In 2009, my goal was to run the Walt Disney World Marathon in January 2010. This wasn’t a New Year’s resolution, per se, since I didn’t even consider running the marathon until halfway through the summer. But it was a large goal that took up much of my free time. If I can plan and accomplish that goal, I should be able to come up with a few good new year’s resolutions.
